Event Description: This lecture is an examination of Nazi Germany’s desire to be the host country of the 1936 Olympics, known as the “Nazi Olympics.” It examines the actions of Avery Brundage and the American Olympic committee in assuring that Adolf Hitler’s desire would be fulfilled. The lecture also examines the attitudes of the German people and the Nazi functionaries during the Olympic Games. The lecture takes a hard look at the American boycott movement and the role of Jewish and black athletes in the 1936 Olympic Games.
