Event Description: In part one of the Garcia Opera Lineage, we learned of Manuel Garcia, the Spanish tenor and vocal pedagogue, who fathered two of the great divas of the 19th century, focusing on Maria Malibran. Part two is a discussion of Malibran's younger sister, Pauline Viardot, who became one of the most influential and popular opera singers of the second half of the 19th century. Pauline Viardot was also a composer, pianist and organist, and she used her great influence to help launch the careers of several of the most famous composers of her day, including Gounod, Faure and Saint Saens. Viardot's mentorship and friendship with the famous Russian author, Ivan Turgenev, is legendary. Instructor: Dr. Ron Bowman This event is free and open to the public.
