Event Description: This is the little-known story of Gertrude Bell, the “Female Lawrence of Arabia,” and a woman far ahead of her time. A privileged British woman who fell in love with the Middle East, Bell became the most respected foreign woman in that region during the first half of the 20th century. She was also responsible for drawing up the boundaries for what became modern day Iraq. This fully costumed, one-woman play, “Ghosts of the Desert,” is a lesson in history and personal beliefs, wrapped in an entertaining package of humor, disappointment and devotion to one’s dreams. Presenter: Janina Birtolo This event is free and open to the public, but you must register to attend.
