Event Description: Hodges University's Frances Pew Hayes Center for Lifelong Learning is hosting Larry Richardson, who will present "Cuba - An Island Paradise Off the Beaten Track." Officially opened to U.S. citizens in recent years, Cuba remains an island paradise. Havana is certainly the “go to” city for fabulous architecture and Spanish settlement history, but the countryside reflects the real character of Cuba - its people; friendly, helpful and openly delighted you have come to visit. So, what else is there? How about science! Cuba hosts 312 species of orchids, where Florida only records an estimated 125. Networks of caves offer boat tours for thousands of visitors each year, and provide scientists a unique collection of animals to study, not seen anywhere else in the world. Centuries of assorted occupation and variable politics have kept Cuba’s environment pristine and accessible; where nature and people come together in a wonderful way. Explore the city and the wilderness with nature photographer Larry Richardson, and see Cuba in a new and beautiful way. Cost: $250 (Annual); $125 (Seasonal); $25 (per class) For more information, contact Katharine Sittler at cll@hodges.edu or (239) 598-6140.
