It’s needed to help save two-year-old Zainab, a South Florida girl who is battling neuroblastoma, a very aggressive form of cancer.

Zainab’s blood is extremely rare because she is missing a common antigen that most people carry on their red blood cells. The antigen is called “Indian B” (Inb). For a person to be a possible match for Zainab, they must also be missing the Indian B antigen, or the little girl's body will reject the blood. Locating people who are missing the Indian B antigen comes down to genetics.

•	Statistically, the only people who are likely to be a match for Zainab are people of Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent. Of these populations, less than 4% of the people are actually missing the Indian B antigen.

To be a match for Zainab a donor must meet the following criteria:
•	Must be exclusively Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent – meaning the donor’s birth parents are both
           100% Pakistani, Indian or Iranian
•	Must be blood type “O” or “A”
•	All donations for Zainab must be coordinated with OneBlood in advance to ensure the additional compatibility testing is performed. Visit https://www.oneblood.org/zainab/ for donation information.

OneBlood is working closely with other blood centers and the American Rare Donor Program (ARDP), an organization that searches the world for rare blood donors. So far, three matching donors have been located, including a donor that ARDP located in the United Kingdom, near London. It’s the first time OneBlood has ever received an international donor for a local patient. The other two matching donors are from the United States.

While it’s promising the three donors have been located, additional donors are needed. Zainab will need blood transfusions for the foreseeable future. To support her long-term blood needs, the search is on to find at least seven to ten compatible donors. OneBlood is sharing Zainab’s story in the hopes more people who meet the specific donor criteria will come forward to donate for the little girl.

OneBlood is conducting all compatibility testing of potential donors. So far, more than 1,000 local donations, as well as donations from other parts of the country have been tested and no additional matches have been identified.

Media Tool Kit Available
•	To view OneBlood’s online show about the search for Zainab’s donors, and for details on how to donate and/or host a blood drive for Zainab, please visit https://www.oneblood.org/zainab/.
•	A media tool kit with video and interviews is available by visiting https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4yrbbtu13mdglv6/AADToakWh9ixj9e4rBKiXYjca?dl=0.

                                                                ##

OneBlood is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community asset responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to more than 200 hospital partners and their patients throughout most of Florida, parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. To learn more about OneBlood visit www.oneblood.org.

Over the years, we have grown to over 125 vendors. We are confident that we have all the delicious foods and local crafts that you love to shop for.

Fresh, local & healthy fruits and veggies, including Certified Organic produce, are the core of the market along with homemade and handmade foods and crafts. Fresh baked breads & pastries, homemade pickles, jams & jellies, Gulf fresh seafood, fresh meats, homemade pet treats, handcrafted soaps, essential oils, local honey, made-on-site guacamole, fresh, cut flowers, native plants & trees are just some of the fantastic products available.

Since shopping and eating seem to go so well together, the market has endless options. A food truck court and tent vendors offer BBQ, Crepes, Empanadas, Mexican food, German street food and healthy options like Kombucha, health smoothies, Acai bowls and salads.

Each season we do our best to give back to the community by offering spaces for non-profits, schools and community groups. Another way we give back is by offering the ability for our EBT/SNAP customers to shop for healthy and affordable food options. We are proud to say that 7 years ago, we were the first market in Lee County to offer ease of shopping for our neighbors.

We are also proud that we were the first market in Lee County to offer Fresh Access Bucks to our EBT/SNAP customers. This program gives $40.00 extra to purchase Florida grown fruits & veggies at the market. A healthy community is a great outcome.

The market can also be very entertaining. Three great musicians perform during the season. Dave Lapio is a master of the Pan, John Friday is a talented writer and singer of Trop Rock music and Yard Dog Charlie, who brings Florida Swamp Music to the market. Florida Swamp Music is a blend of Cajun, zydeco, folk, country, Rock & Roll and comedy.

We hope that you choose to make the Cape Coral Farmers Market your Saturday Morning Destination!

The Platters and Cornell Gunter’s The Coasters will perform their iconic music at Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee on Saturday, March 2 at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are available now for $59 and can be purchased online at www.jaytv.com/florida, at the casino or by phone at 800-514-ETIX(3849).

In 1955, The Platters (Herb Reed, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Zola Taylor and Tony Williams) debut single, “Only You (and You Alone),” launched the vocal group on the world stage. The romantic ballad became an instant hit with the public and would eventually reach number five on the Pop charts. The Platters’ follow-up single, “The Great Pretender,” propelled the group to the number one position on the pop charts, providing the launch pad for their meteoric rise as crossover artists. Both tracks have since been declared “songs of the 21st century” by the Grammy Music Hall of Fame.

The Platters timeless hits also include “Only You,” “Magic Touch,” “My Prayer Heaven on Earth” “I’m Sorry,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” “Harbor Lights” Red Sails in the Sunset,” “I’ll Never Smile Again,” “You’ll Never Know” and “Twilight Time.”

In keeping with the founder’s wishes, The Platters continue to evolve and entertain music fans of all ages worldwide. With a solid foundation of multiple hit songs under their belts, thanks to the founding members, The Platters today are Wayne Miller, Adele Galinda “DD”, Grey Martin, Lance Bernard Bryant and Kenny Williams – all seasoned, veteran performers of film, stage and music from Broadway to Hollywood – and continue to captivate audiences under the baton of musical director Michael Larson.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the formation of Cornell Gunter’s Coasters. Over the years, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters have continually built up a new market for their approach to 1950s music. Gunter believed that The Coasters and all of the musical groups from that era could be reborn and thrive as live performing groups. Ultimately he led the way to what was soon to become known as “Classic Rock”. All that was needed was to take the original music and present it in a way that gave each group a modern theatrical approach to their presentation. More importantly, he developed an approach to 1950s music that lent itself to constant innovation.

In the years since Gunter passed away, the group members who had been with him for many decades, and the original management team who had been the creative force behind the group, carry on by incorporating his genius into the show. It is under the tutelage and guidance of this multi-decade relationship that the group continues to entertain today.

The Coasters’ enduring hits include “Charlie Brown,” “Along Came Jones,” “Poison Ivy,” “Love Potion #9,” “Love Potion #10,” “Little Egypt,” “Young Blood,” “Yakety Yak,” “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart,” “Searchin’,” “Shoppin’ For Clothes” and “Smokey Joe’s Café.”

Concert attendees must be 21 years of age or older.

Surfside Sunshine Market 3/5/2019 1:00 PM - 3/5/2019 6:00 PM

Where They Could Go to Be Safe and Why
March 7, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Germany, Italy and Japan, Axis powers fighting the Allies. One country wanted the Jews eliminated and they tried. One country tolerated the Jews and they did. One country welcomed the Jews and they went. This is the remarkable and complicated story of Japan’s attitude toward European Jewry. Why were they welcomed? How were they treated? Why did Japan consistently refuse Hitler’s request to implement his murderous policies against the Jews?

Individuals must register to attend. Tickets are $20 per person for each lecture or $80 for the entire series. All presentations will take place at Hodges University, Naples campus, in the White Community Room.

The Membership Development Committee has the opportunity to be the first to know about new members with the chamber. Ambassadors attend Ribbon Cuttings and also take part in being a mentor to new members. This is a great way to meet new prospects and welcome them to the chamber. Every month the Ambassadors have reserved seating at the General Membership meeting/luncheon. They network with new members and expose their own business during the process. There is an average of ten ribbon cuttings per month. We encourage all Ambassadors to attend as many ribbon cuttings as their time allows. The time investment for this committee can be as high as 10 hours per month depending on your level of involvement.

Yes, Anne, Maybe You Were Right
March 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Each year, our concluding lecture celebrates those Gentiles who risked their lives and the safety of those they loved to save endangered Jews. Honored by Israel as Righteous Among the Nations, those brave men, women and children, and often times entire villages, were the brightest of lights in the darkest of times. This year, we will talk about three individuals whose course, fortitude and bravery demonstrate that maybe Anne Frank was right about the goodness of people.

Individuals must register to attend. Tickets are $20 per person for each lecture or $80 for the entire series. All presentations will take place at Hodges University, Naples campus, in the White Community Room.
