It’s needed to help save two-year-old Zainab, a South Florida girl who is battling neuroblastoma, a very aggressive form of cancer.

Zainab’s blood is extremely rare because she is missing a common antigen that most people carry on their red blood cells. The antigen is called “Indian B” (Inb). For a person to be a possible match for Zainab, they must also be missing the Indian B antigen, or the little girl's body will reject the blood. Locating people who are missing the Indian B antigen comes down to genetics.

•	Statistically, the only people who are likely to be a match for Zainab are people of Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent. Of these populations, less than 4% of the people are actually missing the Indian B antigen.

To be a match for Zainab a donor must meet the following criteria:
•	Must be exclusively Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent – meaning the donor’s birth parents are both
           100% Pakistani, Indian or Iranian
•	Must be blood type “O” or “A”
•	All donations for Zainab must be coordinated with OneBlood in advance to ensure the additional compatibility testing is performed. Visit https://www.oneblood.org/zainab/ for donation information.

OneBlood is working closely with other blood centers and the American Rare Donor Program (ARDP), an organization that searches the world for rare blood donors. So far, three matching donors have been located, including a donor that ARDP located in the United Kingdom, near London. It’s the first time OneBlood has ever received an international donor for a local patient. The other two matching donors are from the United States.

While it’s promising the three donors have been located, additional donors are needed. Zainab will need blood transfusions for the foreseeable future. To support her long-term blood needs, the search is on to find at least seven to ten compatible donors. OneBlood is sharing Zainab’s story in the hopes more people who meet the specific donor criteria will come forward to donate for the little girl.

OneBlood is conducting all compatibility testing of potential donors. So far, more than 1,000 local donations, as well as donations from other parts of the country have been tested and no additional matches have been identified.

Media Tool Kit Available
•	To view OneBlood’s online show about the search for Zainab’s donors, and for details on how to donate and/or host a blood drive for Zainab, please visit https://www.oneblood.org/zainab/.
•	A media tool kit with video and interviews is available by visiting https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4yrbbtu13mdglv6/AADToakWh9ixj9e4rBKiXYjca?dl=0.

                                                                ##

OneBlood is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community asset responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to more than 200 hospital partners and their patients throughout most of Florida, parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. To learn more about OneBlood visit www.oneblood.org.

Over the years, we have grown to over 125 vendors. We are confident that we have all the delicious foods and local crafts that you love to shop for.

Fresh, local & healthy fruits and veggies, including Certified Organic produce, are the core of the market along with homemade and handmade foods and crafts. Fresh baked breads & pastries, homemade pickles, jams & jellies, Gulf fresh seafood, fresh meats, homemade pet treats, handcrafted soaps, essential oils, local honey, made-on-site guacamole, fresh, cut flowers, native plants & trees are just some of the fantastic products available.

Since shopping and eating seem to go so well together, the market has endless options. A food truck court and tent vendors offer BBQ, Crepes, Empanadas, Mexican food, German street food and healthy options like Kombucha, health smoothies, Acai bowls and salads.

Each season we do our best to give back to the community by offering spaces for non-profits, schools and community groups. Another way we give back is by offering the ability for our EBT/SNAP customers to shop for healthy and affordable food options. We are proud to say that 7 years ago, we were the first market in Lee County to offer ease of shopping for our neighbors.

We are also proud that we were the first market in Lee County to offer Fresh Access Bucks to our EBT/SNAP customers. This program gives $40.00 extra to purchase Florida grown fruits & veggies at the market. A healthy community is a great outcome.

The market can also be very entertaining with great musicians perform during the season.

We hope that you choose to make the Cape Coral Farmers Market your Saturday Morning Destination!

With a career spanning over two decades and the 20-year anniversary of his record-breaking debut album “Suavemente,” Elvis Crespo continues to leave his mark in the music industry with 27 Billboard charted hit singles under his belt. “Suavemente” reached #1 on five Billboard charts, and two of its singles, “Tu Sonrisa” and “Suavemente,” would become massive global hits. “Suavemente” went #1 on the Billboard “Hot Latin Songs” chart and remained there for seven weeks, becoming the longest-lasting Tropical song at the top of a national chart list. Crespo made history by becoming the first Tropical genre artist on the Sony artist roster to sell over a million copies in the United States and over four million worldwide.

Recently, Elvis Crespo united with renowned DJ Steve Aoki and Latin superstar Daddy Yankee on Aoki’s first-ever Spanish Language dance track, “Azukita.” The track received multiple gold and platinum records worldwide, surpassed 42 million streams on YouTube and received a Latin American Music Award nomination for “Favorite Tropical Song” in 2018. Crespo would also earn a 2018 Latin Grammy® nomination for his album “Diomedizao” in the “Best Contemporary Tropical Album” category. The album debuted #1 on iTunes in the United States and Puerto Rico. To close the year, Crespo returned to his roots and released the merengue-infused single “Ella me beso,” which climbed into the Top 25 of Billboard’s “Latin Airplay” charts.

Melina Leon began her professional career as a teenager in musical groups such as Las Cherís and Rubí, Las Chicas de Puerto Rico, Merengue Orchestra and Paparazzi. In 1997 she became a soloist with her first production "Mujeres Liberadas," which represented the beginning of an ascending and successful artistic career. In 1998, she released her second album, "Con los pies sobre la tierra," which won numerous awards. In 2010 she recorded her third production "No Seas Cobarde" and was nominated and won “Premios Lo Nuestro” as tropical artist of the year. Leon’s most recent single "Dicen que yo soy mala" is the sequel to her iconic theme "Mujeres Liberadas."

The Membership Development Committee has the opportunity to be the first to know about new members with the chamber. Ambassadors attend Ribbon Cuttings and also take part in being a mentor to new members. This is a great way to meet new prospects and welcome them to the chamber. Every month the Ambassadors have reserved seating at the General Membership meeting/luncheon. They network with new members and expose their own business during the process. There is an average of ten ribbon cuttings per month. We encourage all Ambassadors to attend as many ribbon cuttings as their time allows. The time investment for this committee can be as high as 10 hours per month depending on your level of involvement.

Attendees must be 21 years of age.

A defining voice of country music, Tucker inspired many female artists who still top the charts today. From the signature classic songs to the unforgettable sass and soul of her voice, Tucker has paved a path in country music and beyond through an unprecedented level of success and continues her longevity today due to a natural, undeniable talent. Her style has proved to be timeless ever since she recorded her debut single “Delta Dawn,” at age 13. The single earned a Grammy nomination for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance” and launched Tucker into the national spotlight.

In 1972, she earned the “Top New Female Vocalist” award by the Academy of Country Music. With a wildly growing career at such a young age, the Tucker craze continued with her first number one single in 1973, “What’s Your Mama’s Name.” As additional hits continued, Tucker added an edgy rock image, which she still embraces, to her musical taste with the album T.N.T, which was released in 1978. The gold certified album peaked at number two on the album charts. Through a collaborative relationship with Glen Campbell, Tucker transitioned to a new label in the early 1980s and was back in the Top 10 with “Can I See You Tonight.” Just a few years later, Tucker experienced another hit with “One Love at a Time.” With four additional number one charted hits between 1986-1988, Tucker’s career was proving to be one for the record books.

The 1990s gave rise to some of Tucker’s most recognizable and career defining songs, “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” and “It’s a Little Too Late.” New albums, along with multiple versions of greatest hits and live compilation projects, propelled Tucker to become one of the best-selling female artists in country music

Education Committee Meeting 1/23/2020 8:30 AM - 1/23/2020

The goal of the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral Education Committee is to assist our local students, teachers and schools as they prepare for the future.

The Marshall Tucker Band (MTB) came together as a young, hungry six-piece group in Spartanburg, S.C. in 1972, naming the band for a blind piano tuner after they found it inscribed on a key to their original rehearsal space. The band’s 40-plus-years music catalog consists of more than 20 studio albums and a score of live releases and has racked up multi-platinum album sales many times over. MTB’s indelible hits include the heartfelt singalong “Heard It in a Love Song,” the insistent pleading of “Can’t You See,” the testifying travelogue warning of “Fire on the Mountain,” the wanderlust gallop of “Long Hard Ride,” and the unquenchable yearning pitch of “Ramblin’,” to name but a few.

The Marshall Tucker Band members include original lead vocalist and bandleader Doug Gray and his current bandmates, drummer B.B. Borden (Mother’s Finest, The Outlaws), bassist/vocalist Tony Black, keyboardist/saxophonist/flautist/vocalist Marcus James Henderson, guitarist/vocalist Chris Hicks, and guitarist/vocalist Rick Willis.

Surfside Sunshine Market 1/28/2020 1:00 PM - 1/28/2020 6:00 PM

The Surfside Sunset Market offers a Year-Round shopping experience to Cape Coral from 1:00pm-6:00pm from October - May and 8:00am-1:00pm from June - September.
